Winnam Residential Aged Care Facility
Lota, QLD
Winnam Residential Aged Care Facility is a new, culturally appropriate aged care home providing 32 much-needed beds. Its design honours the rich culture and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, offering a supportive, nurturing place for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous elders.
Our role on this project was to design and deliver vertical batten screens that reduce the visual impact of roof-mounted plant and minimise noise from plant to the clinical hub on the northern side. The larger screen was specified with curved corners — a stunning architectural feature that softens its lines and ties it to the building’s design. Because the screen posts and rails would be visible through the battens, they needed to be powdercoated to match the cladding. The screens also needed lockable doors.
Our roof-mounted vertical batten screens minimise the visual impact of plant and keep the rooftop looking tidy. On the larger screen, an acoustic panel along the north side reduces noise into the clinical hub, with an NRC rating of 0.75. Its curved corners give it a softer, more refined appearance that complements the architecture. Powdercoated posts and rails matched to the batten cladding give a seamless finish, while lockable doors keep access to plant secure and controlled.
